The number of Texas home sales and median price hit record-breaking highs for the seventh year in a row.

According to the 2021 Texas Real Estate Year in Review report, the number of homes sold statewide increased 6.2% in 2021, with 416,853 sales. At the end of the year, housing inventory dropped to 1.2 months, a decrease of 0.4 months from the end of 2020.

Additional statistics from the report include:

  • Statewide, median home price reached $300,000, up 15.7% from the prior year.  
  • Homes spent an average of 34 days on the market in 2021, 21 days less than 2020. 
  • Demand for housing hit an all-time high, and Texas REALTORS® saw many multiple-offer situations, including homes that attracted dozens of offers and sold for well above asking price.
